Enjoy displays and fascinating guided tours of our buildings, collections and workshops on the last Sunday of every month from April to September.

 

29th April - Step aboard the 11.50am and 4pm departures from Andrews House station and enjoy a guided tour of the Tanfield Railway on board our Director's Class carriage. Tour length - 1 hour, 10 minutes. Train travel and Director's class ticket required.

27th May - Find out about the fascinating history of Marley Hill engine shed, the World's oldest working engine shed and the locomotives that are now stored within it. FREE tour (donations welcome), starting from Pontop Canteen in Marley Hill carriage shed at 11.45am and 2.35pm. Tour length - approx 30 minutes.

24th June - Take a look behind the scenes into our Engineering workshop and find out where we restore and overhaul our locomotives and rolling stock. FREE tour (donations welcome), starting from Pontop Canteen in Marley Hill carriage shed at 11.45am and 2.35pm. Tour length - approx 30 minutes.

26th August - Watch as our skilled engineer demonstrates how our Consett wheel lathe works in Marley Hill engine shed. Find out about the wheel lathe's history and why wheels need to be profiled. Demonstrations 11.45am - 12.30pm and 2.30pm - 3.15pm. Free demonstrations (donations welcome).

30th September - Take a look around our 5 road storage shed and find out more about our collection. FREE tour (donations welcome), starting from Pontop Canteen in Marley Hill carriage shed at 11.45am and 2.35pm. Tour length - approx 30 - 40 minutes.
